Clowning Around With Drywall Stilts

Drywall projects get a whole lot easier when a drywall lift and drywall stilts are used.  Using stilts may make you feel like a circus clown, but never fear, they will help you get your project done in no time!  They will make the job go much, much faster because you won’t need to stop frequently to move an unstable ladder from place to place.  All you will have to do is take a few steps (wobbly?) over to the next location!

Keep in mind that stilts do require some agility and physical strength.  They can be dangerous if you are not careful using them.  You must have good coordination skills and be in good health to use them.  Your leg muscles will feel the strain so they need to be in tip top shape.  You must have good balance and certainly not be afraid of heights!  You can master them, however, with enough practice and perseverance.

Do some stretching exercises before ever getting up on your stilts.  Stretch those leg muscles especially in the calf area.  Your ankles won’t be used much so get the rest of your leg in the best shape it can be.  When you are ready to start your drywall project, make sure that all of your tools are close at hand so that you don’t have to get off your stilts once you are “up in the air”.  Use your scaffolding or even a ladder to keep the equipment and supplies that you will need close at hand for installing, mudding and taping the drywall.

Stilts will help you stay firmly planted on the ground while you’re doing your drywall project.  Before putting on your stilts make sure that all the bolts on the stilts are secure.  Use them only on hard, even surfaces.  Watch your head so you don’t bump it on light fixtures, ceiling fans and so on.  Never try to climb stairs while you’re wearing them!  That is just an accident waiting to happen.  Strap them on according to directions and take small steps while using them. Just remember to follow these few safety precautions and you are on your way to success.  Using drywall stilts in the right way will make you a “star” in the drywall world!
